Images of Peru: A Photographic Exploration by Mahlon Barash
'A picture tells a thousand words'.
Between Protected content Protected content Barash - a member of the Lima Writers Group - came to Peru as a Peace Corps volunteer and worked in the Peruvian Highlands or Sierra, helping small indigenous communities build schools using local and donated materials, as part of a government program called Cooperation Popular, a flagship initiative set up by President Fernando Belaumde Terry.
Mahlon carried his camera with him during this formative period of his life, and later between Protected content 1982, when he returned to the country to work with the Housing Bank of Peru. As he says, each photograph represents a personal experiece...each one has a story to go with it.
Mahlon has recently published a collection of these photographs, and in this meeting will not only talk about the stories contained within each photo, but will also share with us his love of Peru - he is now a citizen - and the impact his Peace Corps experience has had on his life and that of others.
