Hi all! Getting back to Geneva this weekend after a long overseas travel and want to beat back the jet lag with a little exercise.

The plan is to meet at the L'horloge fleurie in front of the the Protected content We will depart on bike shortly thereafter for the lower lift station that goes up Saleve and secure our bikes there. This is a leisurely 30 minute bike ride on paved roads -- around 7 KM. If you do not have a bike you can take Bus 8 to Douane -- its just as short walk to the lift station from there.

From the lower lift station we will hike up to the upper lift station. Max altitude is around Protected content . We will be climbing about 5.5 KM and Protected content up. This is not a technical hike but the trail is at times quite steep so plan on periods of high exertion. You will need some fitness or the day will not be a happy one. Time to the top will be around 2.5 hours at a steady but not overly ambitious pace. Here is a link to a PDF with info on the hike from the lower station:Protected content

Please bring some good shoes/boots to hike in, as well as water and snacks. I plan on bringing some wine and a few morsels for a light picnic at the top to complement the view. If people want to join in we can organize who brings what. Afterwards, we can decide how virtuous we are and either hike back down or just take the Gondola back to the bikes. This may all be decided by the wine :)

If you already have a good idea of the best place to secure the bikes let me know. I imagine there will be something near the lower lift station. But I do not plan on bringing a nice bike and cannot guarantee the security of your bike. I have a couple locks.

Of course, make sure to prepare accordingly and judge your ability for the hike. I am not a tour guide so please understand you travel at your own risk. Look forward to seeing you out!
