75 years ago, in Protected content , the Kremlin initiated an action ordered by Stalin to evict Crimean Tatars from their homeland. They were transported in cattle cars in inhumane conditions and many thousands perished en route to their assigned places of exile. This deportation/genocide is known as the Sürgünlik.

Jamie Doran is an award-winning Irish-Scottish independent documentary filmmaker and former BBC producer who shot many films about the hottest points of the modern world and received four Emmy awards for his work.

The film "Crimea: Russia's Dark Secret" reveals not only the methods used by Russia to illegally take the peninsula, and its continued repressions against the Crimean Tatars, but also the history of the land, which categorically disproves the frequent claim by Russians that Crimea was "always" a part of Russia. It wasn't.
The introduction and Q&A will be conducted by historian Dr. Lubomyr Hajda, Senior Advisor to the Director of the Ukrainian Research Institute, and working with Harvard's Turkish-Ukrainian-Crimean Tatar Studies at CMES (Center for Middle Eastern Studies).
