Autumnal Star-gazers...inc. dinner and drinks :)
I am so excited about this, I can hardly contain my enthusiasm!!!! This is a different event from our normal activities, but still fun and a challenge in its own way!
Join us for an evening of magical stars, galaxies and clusters, as one of our members, Alan, is sharing his amazing hobby with us, in order to give everyone a unique opportunity in taking a cheeky peek into Space!
We will meet in the beautiful suburb of Salford Quays. We will have dinner and drinks at one of the restaurants/bars in the area. Once we are ready, we will proceed to the Imperial War Museum terrace, which is quiet and safe, even at midnight, and which offers great views of the Quays, to begin our starwatching session. Alan has very kindly offered to provide us with the necessary telescopes, sets of binoculars etc, so all that is required from you, is your passion for good company and the stars of our Universe - please feel free to bring a bottle of wine, if you feel like it!!
Alan will lead our session, so here is a little description to wet your 'appetite': 'With the arrival of autumn comes darker nights. What better time to take a moment to gaze up at the heavens to take a closer look at the sights of the night sky.
We hope to survey the dramatic landscapes of the Moon, giant Jupiter with its own moons, Saturn with its spectacular rings, and rusty Mars with its polar ice caps. We will scan our Milky Way galaxy and finally will hunt for the Andromeda Galaxy, which is so far away its light takes 2.5 million years to reach us!!'.
Sounds interesting? Then read on:

The success of this event depends on good weather and clear skies. Please note that we may need to cancel the event on the day, if it is cloudy or rainy.
