Rosa, quel Bonheur!
Rosa Bonheur was an amazing woman and painter!
She was born in Bordeaux, two centuries ago, that's why she is celebrated this year, especially in our town, but also in Paris Musée d'Orsay.
Independent, never married and wearing pants when traveling by special derogation of the authorities, do not expect any "feminine sentimentalism" in her works! Fascinated by animals, she painted in a very realistic way many of them. She probably used as models some of the dogs, deer, horses or even lions... composing a large menagerie at her home!
PS: no need to get your ticket in advance for this museum
PPS: if we have time we will also visit the Rosa Bonheur works exposed at the Galerie des Beaux-Arts, across the street
PPS: as usual , for those wishing so, after the visit we can go for a drink somewhere nearby
