I've travelled the world. Everywhere I've gone, street culture and street food has been among the most interesting experiences I've had. The obstacle I, and I believe everyone faces in a foreign land, when we try to immerse in local culture and food is to understand what's going on, what to say and what to do - the internet doesn't give all the answers - yet.

In Singapore we may be very modern, but that doesn't mean we do not have our own peculiar local culture. And nowhere is it more apparent than in our coffee shops and hawker centres.

For a visitor to Singapore, or a foreigner living here, knowing how to get around the coffee shops and hawker centres is key to blending in, mixing with the locals and understanding the way of life in Singapore.
