The Finnish Comics Society is an organization that aims to promote the awareness and critical reading of comics and to gain respect for the art form. In recent years the association has been active in launching several new cultural export projects as well as new websites and online services for comics lovers. The most famous activity featured by the society is the largest annual comics festival in Northern Europe, "Helsinki Comics Festival".Protected content
This year's festival will happen in September, but we don't have to wait that long to get acquainted with the Comics Society.
Comics Swap Club is a new initiative that will be held monthly or almost monthly before the festival. It is a place for exchanging comics for free and for experiencing the joy of reading and sharing.Protected content
Let's take time in the coming Saturday afternoon and visit the club meeting. Entrance is free and even if you don't have comics to exchange, you are still welcome to come and enjoy the art, coffee, and tea. We can also use the opportunity to visit Kallio and survey Sarjakuvakeskus (a gallery and workshop of comics art that serves as the office of the Finnish Comics Society), and the comicbook store Turun Sarjakuvakauppa upstairs.Protected content
