Ideas Exchange: The Meaning of Life and Death
We live in very fortunate times. In the 21st century, in the majority of the world’s countries we can reasonably expect not to die a violent and premature death. We also have opportunities, health and knowledge which would be unattainable for past generations.
However, our modern world has lost many of the certainties of religion and we are faced with a stark reality: our life is like a party, much better and larger than the “parties” of our ancestors. But we know one day we will have to leave this party, and it will go on without us.
We’ll get together and with coffee or other beverage in hand talk to other human beings that are as passionate as ourselves about finding answers.
Some subjects we’ll touch on:
• Why is there something rather than nothing?
• What does it feel like to not exist?
• Death – does it bring meaning to life?
• Why are we afraid of dying?
• Immortality – better or worse than being mortal?
Upon finishing the get-together, we will have gained new perspectives on the subjects and deepened our understanding of the meaning we assign to our lives, together with the anxieties and needs that drive us in our existence.
