Asafotufiame Festival - Weekend Trip !!!
Asafotufiami Festival Protected content 2-4)! 😃
Encounter the Asafotufiame Festival, an annual celebration by the people of Ada, a fishing community in the Ga-East District of Ghana, to remember the ancestors who fought to retain their land. They fought with the Dangombas and the Ashantis, just to mention few. The Asafotufiame Festival, was initially started by a group called the Asafo Company with just a few members. Later in the years of the celebration, the traditional council and the indigenes of Ada realized the importance of celebrating their warriors who shed blood to save their land. The name was later changed to Asafotufiame.
Every first Thursday in August all the people of Ada, resident or not, come home for this colourful annual celebration. On this same day, all and sundry engage in a clean-up exercise.
On Friday, the day after, every clan goes to a place called "Aplenahi3': the place where the ancestor warriors of Ada fought their final battle with the Ashantis where captured most of them as slaves. Till date, the Ashanti's have their clan in Ada; Kabutey (male) and the Kabukie (female) are names from the Ashanti' clan in Ada. Aplenahi3 is actually a receded bush kept for the ancestor warriors with the belief that their spirits reside there. From Aplenahie3, everyone moves to the river bank to wash their hands and feet like the ancestor warriors did in the days of war. At the river bank, to tourists, especially, this is where it gets most interesting!
