Hi dance enthusiasts,

I am delighted to invite you to a very original production of Swan Lake by my favorite contemporary choreographer J-C Maillot.

Here is the description of the show:

President of the board, H.S.H. The Princess of Hanover
The Monte-Carlo Ballets
Choreography by Jean-Christophe Maillot
with the dancers from the Ballets de Monte-Carlo music Piotr Ilitch Tchaïkovski stage design Ernest Pignon-Ernest costumes Philippe Guillotel lighting Jean-Christophe Maillot, Samuel Théry dramaturgy Jean Rouaud composition Bertrand Maillot

Dance, when it is elevated to sheer art, raises questions about the very essence of our humanity. This is supreme…magic!

The choreographer Jean-Christophe Maillot returns to enchant our stage here in Nice. This master of Neoclassicism has chosen to revisit the mythological roots of Tchaikovsky’s famous ballet. Stripped of its romanticism, Swan Lake seems empowered, with unprecedented depth. The idyll between the Prince and his betrothed is shaken by the sudden appearance of a poisonous woman, the terrible Black Swan. The tragedy befalling the two lovers takes on a whole new dimension – that of the great struggle between Darkness and Light.
The choreography is dynamic, explosive, thrillingly beautiful, enhanced by the elegant sobriety of the set design, created by the artist Ernest Pignon-Ernest. The costume-designer Philippe Guillotel covers the hands of the dancers with feathers, transforming them into supernatural creatures. The original meaning of the tale comes to life in this black and white blueprint, made up of sudden jolts, virtuosity, frenetic swirls and a touch of the burlesque.
