Let's watch a Akira Kurosawa classic at the Japanese film fest!
The 'Eyes on Japan' film festival is back in Düsseldorf with a curated selection of Japanese films from Akira Kurosawa classics to modern Anime. In its 14th year, the theme in Protected content Tokyo and Sports; keeping in mind the upcoming Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
I've chosen one of Kurosawa's earliest films 'The Drunken Angel' from Protected content a 7.7 on IMDB and 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. The chaotic worlds of the Japanese Mafia (Yakuza) and an alcoholic doctor collide in this film noir classic from Akira Kurosawa.
It's in OmU version, so Japanese with German sub titles; possibly has English sub titles too but not sure.
Entry to the festival is FREE but you need to be in line at least an hour before to get tickets. They give only 2 tickets per person, and there is no way to reserve tickets in advance.
The movie starts at 20:00 but we will meet at 18:30 at the entrance to stand in line. Seriously, it's high demand and the fun is getting those free tickets after waiting in line. :)
I'll wait for max 10 minutes outside and then will be standing in line; usually getting there this early guarantees a ticket.
Post the movie, we can get a drink and discuss the movie.
