Modern English Reinterpretations of German Classical Songs

The Erlkings bring a breath of fresh air to songs by Schumann and Schubert - with vocals, guitar, cello, tuba, drums and vibraphone.
Their English-language interpretation of the art songs is incredibly charming, funny and profound. In the "Franzl & Robert" program, they serve up a singer-songwriter version of Schumann's "Dichterliebe" with a portion of Schubert as an appetizer.
The American baritone and guitarist Bryan Benner, who has lived in Vienna for almost 20 years, takes a cheeky look at the art song with three top musicians.
The quartet with Thomas Toppler (drums and vibraphone) and Simon Teurezbacher (tuba) as well as cellist Ivan Turkalj shows the vitality and charm of this genre, which is sometimes said to be dead, but also its depth and weight of meaning.
200-year-old songs enter our hearts, make us dance or cry, touch our minds - German Lied at its very best!
