Winter Hike (Difficult)
Putting this in as a placeholder. This will be the group's first hike of the winter season and we'll be kicking it off with a serious challenge: Three Ridges in George Washington National Forest. PLEASE READ THE DETAILS BELOW BEFORE SIGNING UP.
This will be one to train for: 14.4 miles with 4,290 feet of elevation gain is nothing to sniff at. We'll drive down to Waynsboro on Saturday afternoon, have dinner and drinks, and turn in early at one of the local hotels. Sunday we'll wake early, grab breakfast, head to the trailhead, do the hike, and then drive back to the DC area.
Note: as with my previous advanced winter hikes, you should sign up for this one only if you're in strong physical condition, have done a hike like this before, and have the required gear. We'll move at a pretty brisk pace. Winter clothes, food, and water are likely to yield packs of Protected content . In terms of the gear list below, remember: No cotton.
Hope to see you there!
2 liters water
Sturdy Hiking boots
Long underwear top and bottoms (wool or synthetic)
Hiking sweater (synthetic or wool)
Wind and waterproof shell for top and bottom
First aid kit
Boot microspikes (these are my favorite: Protected content …
Comfortable clothes and shoes to change into after hike
