Please be advised, the Statek Wratislavia has informed us that the ship will not be sailing at 4 p.m. on Sunday, as the sailing company had previously intended. In fact, it will not be available until 6 p.m., when the restaurant on board will open for guests for the evening.

On the plus side, the 25 PLN sailing fee doesn't apply. On the minus side, it'll admittedly be less memorable (though the ship's restaurant is nevertheless a nice location to meet - we've held gatherings there during the winter months).

Again, PLEASE SHOW UP AT 6 p.m., instead of 3:45 p.m.

-- Revised Activity Description --

“Read a thousand books, and your words will flow like a river”. -Lisa See, American biographical writer

On rare occasions, you’ll run into a writer who never seeks inspiration from another’s work. As to the rest of us, well, we read.

This month, we’re going to meet on the Statek Wratislavia on the Oder River and share with each other exactly what it is that we do read. In other words, this will be a round table discussion about our favorite authors.

HOMEWORK: Before the weekend, choose up to three favorite authors of any genre, and find a passage that exemplifies each, either from printed books you have on hand, or from what you are able to find online. If you like, you can print out your passages for everyone to read (up to 10 people), but definitely have at least one copy with you on the boat to recite for everyone. Your passages should be able to be recited by you in less than 10 minutes.

As selecting a favorite passage and author is yet another opportunity to expose one’s ego, this will be another Positive Discussion Session, where everyone will be asked to come up with up to three positive things to reinforce or encourage the person reciting so as to be better inspired by in his or her own work. Again, you should select for this exercise other people’s writing - we’ll follow up the success of our last session and do another peer review of our own writing styles in the Fall.

This event will take place when the Statek Wratislavia opens on Sunday evening. Each participant will be responsible for his or her own food and drink costs (menu is on the restaurant’s FaceBook page). As the ship is not sailing, there won't be a ticket cost.

If we have time at the end, we’ll discuss future event ideas, and directions that we want our group to go. Looking forward to seeing you all.
