Are language and culture connected?

We are very excited to announce a presentation and discussion regrading language and culture led by Dr. Hur.
Description:
Globalization has generated increasing co-dependencies around the world as well as a growing mobility of people. More and more people leave their home countries and migrate to a different part of the world for studies, businesses, jobs, to seek asylum from local geographical and/or political conflicts, and so forth. Increased migrations led to exposures to a new language and culture that one may not have been familiar with.
This presentation examines the inextricability of language and culture, and how learning a new language and exposures to different cultures influence the shaping of an expatriate identity.
Dr. Hur has a PhD in linguistics and education and experiences of training foreign language teachers from around the world at an institution of higher education in US, will discuss the dynamics of foreign language learning and acquisition and building cultural competency.
