The Russian Geographical Society
The lecture will start with the presenter reviewing the history of the Russian Geographical Society, its founders, goals and milestones. The 19th century period centres around expeditions and travels to Siberia, East and Central Asia. Later on, in the 20th century, the research focus shifts to the Arctic.
Special mention will be given of great foreign scientists who have contributed to the Society's activities, as well as of the Society's own members having done research in foreign countries, and in South-East Asia in particular. Any historical ties between the Russian Geographical Society and Thailand or Indo-China will also be described.
A free reception starts at 6:30 pm at the society. The lecture starts at 7 pm.
