Yuko is a London-based Japanese jazz vocalist who specializes in Brazilian music.
She has just celebrated the launch of her first album, "Verde" at the prestige Protected content where she expressed her absolute love of both Brazilian and contemporary jazz music.
Her interpretations are full of improvisation, with musical shades of light and colour in a minimalistic, sensitive and warm style. Tracks include compositions by many of her all-time favourite artists such as: Hermeto Pascoal, Egberto Gismonti and Ivan Lins, as well as some of her own co-written originals.
She is inspired by the Japanese philosophy, "wabi sabi" which is the pursuit of embracing both the imperfection and transience of life and she believes that this flows through her music.
Yuko arrived in London in Protected content , to complete her Masters in Jazz at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.
Winner of the 6th Angela Carrington Award, Yuko’s career has seen her work with such jazz luminaries as Duncan Eagles, Adriano Adewale and Alan Weekes (Aswad), whilst also running annual charity concert ‘JAZZ+JAPAN’ and playing London’s prevailing jazz haunts such as The Vortex Club, The Spice of Life and Richmix. Yuko also performs and run workshops both in the UK and Japan on a regular basis.
Brazilian percussionist/composer Adriano Adewale is a versatile musician and performer, known for his unconventional and exploratory approach to music, and for his ability to create magical soundscapes from the seemingly banal.Born in São Paulo, Adriano moved to the UK in Protected content , where he has since established himself as a respected percussionist, composer, educator and band leader. Adriano has performed with leading world musicians such as the great singer Bobby McFerrin, pianist Joanna McGregor and pianist Benjamin Taubkin, one of the foremost piano players and composers from Brazil.
Britten Sinphonia has performed a piece by Adriano at the City of London Festival Protected content , together with Joanna McGregor broadcasted on BBC.
His latest orchestral work with the Horsham Symphony Orchestra was broadcasted on BBC Radio 3 in Jan Protected content .
Rob Luft is an award-winning 24-year-old musician from London, and has been described as one of the UK’s most prominent and talented young contemporary jazz guitarists. Praised by The Times ‘to achieve great things in the future’, Rob was the recipient of the Protected content Wheeler Jazz Prize in association with Edition Records, and he also received the 2nd Prize in The Protected content Jazz Guitar Competition. His debut album, “Riser”, was released in July Protected content , to widespread critical acclaim from the European jazz media. John Fordham wrote in The Guardian that it’s a “very sophisticated debut, but given Luft’s old-soul achievements since his early teens, we should have heard it coming”.
