South Asian Heritage Month Celebration in South London
This month the UK celebrates South Asian Heritage Month (SAHM).
South Asian Heritage Month was set up in Protected content recognise and celebrate the contributions those communities have made to the UK.
Founding Patron of SAHM Anita Rani said: "South Asian Heritage Month is about the next generation of kids growing up in the UK and for them to be able to feel empowered in their identity and proud of who they are."
The theme this year is 'Free to Be Me'.
There are also many special events being held around the UK to mark the occasion.
The mission of the month is to celebrate, commemorate and educate.
People with roots in the South Asian countries of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Nepal, Bhutan, and the Maldives celebrate their heritage, commemorate the journeys they have made, and educate the wider world about the shared history of the UK and South Asian communities.
South Asian cultures are represented throughout the UK and bring a diversity of cultures, beliefs and skills that enriches Lambeth.
