Der junge Törless (film in German)
Let's watch the Protected content film directed by Volker Schlöndorff, adapted from the autobiographical novel The Confusions of Young Törless by Robert Musil.
The film's significance as a cultural artifact of German post-World War II introspection is enhanced by the fact that its haunting medieval-sounding score is written by Hans Werner Henze, the noted German modernist composer.
The film will be in German, probably without German subtitles. It will be shown in a living room or rather library atmosphere (screen & beamer), there will be drinks after the film. I would recommend a good level of German to enjoy the film and a chat in German afterwards. English is not really spoken at the library. Tickets are 6.00 Euro, to be bought at the door. If you have question please contact me.
The film is about the violent, sadistic and homoerotic tendencies of a group of boys at an Austrian military academy at the beginning of the 20th century.
