Sasso di Mont, Italy
Spring takes us now south, before it gets too warm around lake Lugano. Just 30 minutes from Lugano, a mighty cluster of limestone mountains, pointing up into the sky. One of them, the proud Sasso di Mont. Only 900m in a staight line from Dasio, yet 600m higher! And the view from the top: Lago di Lugano, and the villages and mountains around. On the way, streams, waterfalls, forrest, some of it part of the Nature Reserve of Valsolda, all is bright green of the advancing spring.
Drink before and after walk atProtected content
Most of the walk is a T2. The very final part to the top of Sasso di Mont is optional, and a T3. Technically not very difficult, no special equipment needed. Main difficulty is for people who have vertigo, and dealing with the height.
Distance: 7 km.
Uphill: ca. 690m
Downhill: ca. 670m.
Distance: ca. 300m
Uphill/downhill: 66m (yes, sixty six meters)
If we are good with the time, and all or some a willing, I am thinking of giving the option to take on the way back to Dasio a trail a bit longer, exploring the valley on the east side of Sasso di Mont. That means adding about 2 km and 100m uphill. Those who want, can still take the shorter way back, which is easy to follow down to Dasio.
