Medium “Saturday” Hike to Lac Lessy...
Dear fellow-hikers & non-Aston Martin N430 drivers…
The forecast for this upcoming weekend looks to favour Saturday over Sunday – warm & sunny from dawn to dusk..
As our beloved leader, Peak-Peter, is ‘hard’ at it in Thailand, let’s take advantage of this good fortune and have some fun of our own on another mountain adventure…
What makes this trek particularly enjoyable is the contrasts afforded between forests, plateau savannah and mountain vistas.
In terms of “altitude change” (or, in lay speak: how gaddamn hard is it...?), it’s actually very accommodating: We start at Protected content (at the Plateau de Solaison), trek for 40mins through a gently-rising wooded section; then climb almost vertically (20m) using in-situ hand-chains up a rock-face (not difficult at all). After another 20mins easy elevation, we disgorge ourselves onto a wonderful open expanse of flattish meadow-land. This should take approx 40mins to traverse, followed by an ascent up prepared paths to another level-change and then onwards across a mountain mid-section - arriving at a ridge-top which looks down onto Lac Lessy. From there, it’s another 40mins easy-ish downward hike.
Once at the lake, picnicking, swimming and gift-giving to your esteemed guide will ensue.
The return journey will take in a spectacular view point (Leschaux Protected content a well-trodden rocky descent.
Once back at the cars, there are a number of chalet-style restaurants doted around the parking zone where we can take refreshments and get our stories straight about what exactly happened to our missing comrades and the grizzly bear ambush etc...
Participants should certainly be in good physical shape and able to hike at a solid pace for hours at a time.
The hike begins at 09:30 and will probably finished around 18:00.
As is the standard MO, the meeting place will be Place de Neuve, Geneva. This hike is actually the nearest point to Geneva (only 30mins from Moillesulaz, on the A40), so a slightly later start is possible: aim to arrive at P de N @ 09:15 for a 09:30 departure time.
As I live outside of Geneva, Matt Nicholas will help with getting everyone safely into the pool of cars kindly provided…
The GPS coordinates of the parking place are: the Plateau de Solaison, Brizon, Protected content
