Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) -- Primer
NLP has several applications. It can speed up learning, facilitate communication, improve concentration & focus. Some techniques involve self-hypnosis: by imagining certain situations, and manipulating our own thoughts towards a goal, we can program our mind to be the way it has to be, in order to achieve that goal. Think breaking bad habits, and stuff like that.
A lot has been written and discussed about NLP, but not so much at the academic level, or among (psycho)therapists. Why is that? Well, either it doesn’t work, or they’re afraid for their livelihoods (long-term clientele); I think it’s the latter. It’s not a panacea, but it can do minor miracles. I won’t bore you with too much theory – it would be more fun to explain how it works, and demonstrate a few tricks you can do with your mind to prepare you for your future with NLP!
