War of the Worlds Walk
Something a little different: A "themed" walk which might be of particular interest to Sci-fi enthusiasts. A mixture of woodlands and town walking.
This circular walk from Woking Railway Station passes locations associated with H.G. Wells – one of the nation’s greatest science fiction writers.
His move to Woking in Protected content some of his greatest works, including The War of the Worlds.
Wells made Woking infamous in the late 19th Century by making Horsell Common the location for his Martian invasion.
During this walk we'll see:
H G Well's House & The Peace garden
The Sandpit were the "Martians landed"
Horsell Common and woods where the Martians resurrected
The Martian and H G Wells statues
Various locations mentioned in the book including The Wheatsheaf, Bleak House, Town Gate
We'll finish at a local pub after the walk

Meet: JUST OUTSIDE STATION NEAR PLATFORM 1 OPPOSITE COSTA.
IF YOU COME OUT OF THE STATION AND YOU DON'T SEE COSTA ACROSS THE ROAD FROM YOU, THEN YOU ARE ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE STATION
NB. There are a number of roads we have to criss cross over. We will take our time crossing them - there is no hurry... on some of them there are fast moving cars coming from both directions so we need to be careful.
