The Fort of São Vicente, Torres Vedras
The Fort of São Vicente is located in the town and municipality of Torres Vedras, in the Lisbon District of Portugal. In Protected content was the first of Protected content , redoubts and other defenses to be developed as part of three defensive lines between the Atlantic Ocean and the River Tagus that were designed by the Duke of Wellington to protect the Portuguese capital, Lisbon, from possible invasion by French troops during the Peninsular War. These came to be known as the Lines of Torres Vedras. Together with the Fort of Alqueidão, it is considered the most important fortress of those constructed for the Lines.
The Palace-Convent of Mafra
The Palace of Mafra also known as the Palace-Convent of Mafra and the Royal Building of Mafra, is a monumental Baroque and Neoclassical palace-monastery located in Mafra, some 28 kms from Lisbon. Construction began in Protected content King John V of Portugal and was completely concluded in Protected content .
The palace was classified as a National Monument in Protected content was also a finalist in the Seven Wonders of Portugal. On 7 July Protected content , the Royal Building of Mafra – Palace, Basilica, Convent, Cerco Garden and Hunting Park (Tapada) was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
