Khoomei on the Rooftop
We are continuing our ethnic musical trip around Russia and this time I'm inviting you to the centre of Asia - Tuva.
Tuvan Traditional music has won itself a special place in the world music. First of all, it is characterised by highly developed art of throat singing. It is easy to the see the relation of it to throat singing used in Tibetan Buddhism, while some scholars point that this manner of sound creation dates back to the first attempts of mankind to speak.
We will have a very special guest - Eres Sanchay, a master of Tuvan throat singing, a remarkable technique for singing multiple pitches at the same time. Traditional songs, masterful performance of Tuvan throat singing styles - Kargyra, Khoomei, Sygyt, the sound of traditional instruments: melodic and gentle igil (string bow), rhythmic doshpulur (string) and meditative khomus (Jew's harp) will take the listeners into the world of the sounds of nature in Southern Siberia.
The concert will take place on a cosy rooftop in an always buzzing area in the heart of Moscow.
You will also have the opportunity to try Northern delicacies: fish from the Yamal Peninsula, Venison basturma and herbal tea from Altay.
Please, send me message asap if you would like to participate as the number of seats is very limited.
