Discovery Trip to Le Bry – Walk to Ile d'Ogoz & Picnic Lunch
Let’s enjoy a discovery trip to Le Bry, Pont-en-Ogoz to explore Ile d'Ogoz (island of Ogoz). – Ile d'Ogoz is a historical wonder that can be visited on foot for a few weeks a year. Located on the Lac de La Gruyère, it turns into a peninsula when spring arrives. – *You can bring a potluck picnic to share and enjoy on Ile d'Ogoz or savour local specialities in a restaurant*
Lac de la Gruyère
Lake Gruyère is the second largest artificial lake in Switzerland, after Grande-Dixence. The characteristic silhouette of Ile d'Ogoz is the last remains of the old fortified town of Pont-en-Ogoz, drowned during the formation of the lake.
At the end of each winter the level of Lac de la Gruyère is intentionally lowered to accommodate the water from the melting snow. When the water is low enough a shoulder of land emerges again, allowing us to reach Ile d'Ogoz on foot from Le Bry Village, when the lake is 668m or less in depth. – Depending on the weather, it may also be possible to walk to Ile d'Ogoz in late September or early October.
