"Jazz at its Finest Vol. 2"
Bob Degen (piano) and Burkhard Kunkel (sax)
In the music of the duo, dream-walking, warm-hearted moods sound in which Kunkel's dark tone suddenly howls up rough on basset horn or bass clarinet and interweaves with Degen's lyrical sound columns. Despite glaringly flashing expressive beacons, their common improvisational journey is full of clarity; despite all abstraction a bodily music that touches and invites to travel along.
The American pianist Bob Degen has lived in Frankfurt am Main for 45 years and has played a decisive role in shaping the "Frankfurt Sound" in jazz. Degen's melodic-harmonic understanding is a miracle of infinite wealth and he is famous for his subtle play between tradition and experiment. Bass clarinettist Burkard Kunkel received the Jazz Scholarship of the City of Frankfurt in Protected content . He also has Mozart's "favourite instrument", the basset horn, and the zither presented in a new guise and has found a congenial partner in Bob Degen.
