SF Book Club June 2022 - Frankenstein

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
Every book written about artificial intelligence since Protected content something to Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Mary Shelley was 19 when she wrote Frankenstein in Protected content , in a time when industrial revolution fueled people’s growing thirst for knowledge and enhanced the desire to understand and control nature.
Victor’s obsession on science culminating in his attempt to create life can still be seen in our today society. Although modern scientists don’t assembly monsters from dead bodies, there is a constant race in cloning living beings and building overly advanced human-like robots.
Frankenstein’s story has been told and retold numerous times, yet the novel is not so much about fear or horror or monsters, but about what happens when a living thing becomes lonely. Ultimately, the message that withstands the passing of time is a warning for mankind that even though we can do something, doesn’t mean we should do it.
