SciFi Book Club May 2025 - Minority Report
The Minority Report by Philip K Dick
Written in Protected content , this powerful meditation on authority, choice and the illusion of certainty is set in a future society where crimes are prevented before they occur using a system called Precrime, based on the predictions of three precogs (mutated humans with the ability to foresee future events).
John Anderton is the head of Precrime, thus when the precogs predict that he will commit a murder in the near future, he is forced to prove his innocence and uncover how and why the prediction was made.
The title refers to the “minority report”, one of few exceptions when one precog disagrees with the other two, suggesting the possibility of an alternate future.
In Protected content story was adapted into a film, and it would be interesting to look into the differences and similarities of both.
