Expat Life: a Challenge or a Gift in Disguise? (Open Discussion)
What’s expat life really like after the initial sparkle fades away?
Living the expatriate life can be exciting and at the same time challenging. After the initial cultural shock, you have to deal with a realistic outlook on the demands of the expat life. After settling down, which sometimes it’s harder than it sounds, you have to rebuild your life from scratch in a new environment while the ease of visiting an old friend or falling into familiar routines with people you love and have known for a long time, disappears.
Everything that distinguishes you as a person (e.g. career, friends, extended family, religion, community) suddenly seems to disappear when you move abroad.
Making yourself "feel at home" may be challenging, but no one can deny the excitement of meeting new people, new cultures and new traditions.
Sharing our stories, our adversities and our tips will benefit our transition as expats and it will enhance our emotional resilience.
Let's meet and exchange our expat experience!
Looking forward to seeing you all!
