Municipality museum (tour in Italian)
The history of the Protected content
can be traced to Protected content , when Pope Sixtus IV donated a collection of important ancient bronzes to the people of Rome and located them on the Capitoline Hill. Since then, the museums' collection has grown to include a large number of ancient Roman statues, inscriptions, and other artifacts.
Opened to the public in Protected content Clement XII, Protected content are considered the first museum in the world, understood as a place where art could be enjoyed by all and not only by the owners.
The tour is dedicated to the masterpieces located in this museum and to the temporary exhibition named "found again beauty" (bellezza ritrovata), i.e. the lost or stolen artworks found again by Italian Carbineers or rescued after earthquakes or WW2 bombardments. This tour will give us the opportunity to also visit the following buildings: Palazzo dei Conservatori, Pinacoteca, Galleria Sotterranea and Palazzo Nuovo.
IMPORTANT INFO: on the 1st Sunday of each month this museum will grant free entrance only to the CITIZENS OF ROME AND ITS PROVINCE !!!
