[The music and the Beat] Miúcha - The Voice of Bossa Nova

"The Voice of Bossa Nova" pays tribute to the life and career of Miúcha (Heloísa Maria Buarque de Hollanda), one of the most important figures in Brazilian bossa nova. It combines her personal letters, journals, audio diaries, home movies, her own watercolor drawings animated for the film, interviews, and of course her music.
The film explores Miúcha's influence on the development of the bossa nova style and her impact on Brazilian popular culture. A pioneering artist in her own right, Miúcha was an early advocate for gender equality in the music industry and was an important source of inspiration for many of Brazil's greatest musicians.
Directed by Daniel Zarvos (a cousin of Miúcha) and co-directed by Liliane Mutti.
