The Shed: a Meeting Place For Men (online)
Formerly 'The Men's Room'
How does it work?
We will pass the virtual ball around the room and everyone will be offered the opportunity to ask and answer up to 5 questions during the session:
1. How has your week been?
2, What do you want to get off your chest?
3. Tell us something positive that you want to share
The rules ...
- Men only
- Be in a private place
- Cameras and mics must be working and on
- Be prepared to talk, but mostly listen
- Anonymous (if you wish)
- No alcohol
- No judgement
- No politics/religion or 'isms
- No advice is given
- No recording
Find a quiet place where you can concentrate on what is happening and be prepared to stay in the room for the full session of 2 hours - you will be listening more than talking.
I’ve been working on a project with divorced Dad’s about the support they had/have available when going through their breakup etc.
Long story short - it is very apparent that most men, not just divorced Dads, do not have a place to go where they can talk to other men about ‘stuff’.
Research - I’ve looked into what is available in other countries – Andy’s Man Club (UK), areyouboggedmate? (AUS), Tethr (USA), and many more. They all run on the same premise – peer to peer groups in a semi-formal environment to give men space to talk. Questions are pre-set, no drinking is allowed, and everything is confidential.
Conclusion – This is an ongoing pilot format for online meetings.
Hope to see you there, Scott
