Global Treeplanting Day - São Paulo Participation
Hi nature lovers!
March 18th (Sunday) is global Tree Planting Day! Last year, the first year of the event, many cities in more than 25 countries participated, and in Brazil 73 cities had organized tree planting events. This year it should be even bigger!
We're joining a whole set of NGO's, volunteers and other tree enthusiasts for the São Paulo part of the event (so this event is not 100% internations, we'll just be helping out).
The event will be held in a quiet street near the Instituto Biológico in Vila Mariana, SP. The aim there is to plant trees native to the Mata Atlantica (Atlantic rainforest), which used to cover this whole area of the country before urbanization and agriculture took over. The planting of these trees will create so-called bio-corridors for birds, small animals, and pollinators, so that native species get a chance again in the big city.
If you want to join us, your participation is free and your help is much appreciated! Bring some work clothes that can get dirty/muddy, some sturdy shoes, some gloves if you have them, and possibly a hat if it's a hot day. Some food and drink will be provided, but it's also wide to bring your own bottle of water. Tools, seedlings/trees, and other required materials will be provided there.
It will be a big set of people, but you'll easily find the IN group, you can ask for me personally. Friends and families are welcome, in the past kids have really enjoyed participating in these events and seeing the trees go in the ground!
If you have any questions, feel free to get in touch.
Take care and let's green the city a bit more on the 18th!
