Klipriviersberg turned out to be a good hike last we did it in February, so time to revisit:

Situated a mere 15 km from the centre of Johannesburg, the Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve provides for an exciting nature experience as its scenic hiking trails vary in distance and difficulty. It is the largest proclaimed nature reserve in the Joburg Metropolitan area and boasts a surprising diversity ranging from larger game such as zebra, red hartebeest, and black wildebeest, to many items of botanical, geological, archaeological, historical and cultural interest. The Reserve is rated by many as a birding hotspot with more than Protected content species. For the outdoor enthusiast, a visit to the Klipriviersberg is not to be missed. First time visitors are surprised at this beautiful natural asset so close to the hubbub of the city. It’s very aptly referred to as Jozi’s Jewel of the South. After the hike, like last time, we’ll share a meal at Thaba Ya Batswana’s restaurant close by Protected content

If you take a look at the map under photos, you'll see several routes outlined. We’ll aim for a combination of moderately difficult trails of 11.5 km (Bloubos East, Beacon, Archeological Loop, Ray's Ruins, Kiepersol, Bloubos East back). Therefore, bring at least two litres of water, a strong pair of walking shoes or hiking books, a hat, light clothes to avoid overheating, sunblock, an energizing snack, and an emergency plastic poncho in the event of showers.

All are welcome.

It’s a 30 minute drive to the Silent Pools Entrance about 15 km south of the CBD. Please see the map for directions. Note that we are meeting at the NORTH-WESTERN ENTRANCE on Frandaph Drive. Do NOT go to the Recreation Centre down south. Follow the GPS coordinates.
