Windy Brow Game Reserve
We had a lovely time at Protected content last October. Yep, that’s us in the group picture. This is one of the greatest combinations of hiking and game spotting I’ve done. Here’s the original description:
Just outside Cullinan, you’ll find a picturesque game and nature reserve with large wildlife such as giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, impala, kudu, waterbuck, hartebeest and many other species. Join us for a beautiful day of summery hiking and game spotting. Here’s a gallery of photos from our last visit: Protected content .
Perhaps we'll organize a nice diner afterwards back in Jozi.
There are three hiking trails in Windy Brow: the ecology, geology, and archaeology trails totalling 16 km of varied terrain. I’ve laid out a nice 9 km route along the ecology and geology trails passing the more scenic spots.
Easy to moderate.
Bring at least two litres of water, a strong pair of walking shoes or hiking books, a hat, light clothes to avoid overheating, sunblock, an energizing snack, an emergency plastic poncho in the event of showers, and maybe a camera and a pair of binoculars for game spotting.
CHILDREN AND DOGS
Suitable for children over 8. No dogs on account of the game.
I’ve pre-paid 30 permits, so if less than 30 hikers show up the price increases. With full attendance it’s R100. Please bring cash.
It’s a one hour drive north from Jozi. Just take the R513 towards Cullinan.
