City Cycle and Swim
To start the year, let’s do a short bike ride and finish with a swim at Southbank.
If you don’t have a bike, you can hire one (see below for instructions). We will ride from Southbank around the Kangaroo Point cliffs and across the Story Bridge. We will then decide whether we want to do the short 12km route or the longer 20km route. The longer route goes around New Farm and back from Teneriffe to the Story Bridge. Both routes then follow the river around the city through the gardens and back across the Kurilpa bridge to South Bank. See images for route maps.
Most of both routes are on bikeways but the longer route has about 2km on back streets. We can change that to be mostly on bikeways if that is preferred on the day. So we are catering for all levels but it will be a casual ride for experienced riders. If we have both less and more experienced riders, I can take the less experienced riders on the short route and can give the more experienced riders instructions on one or two longer routes (either the one described or an additional loop down Coronation Drive).
Back at Southbank we can have an optional swim followed by brunch. Brunch can either be using the free electric barbecues if you want to bring something or you can purchase something at the many food places.
It will be hot so we have to start early. No apologies for that. In winter we can start later.
Don’t forget water and sun protection, even for this early. There are some water taps available along the route and at Southbank.
