TOPIC: The Illusion of Choice - Free Will & Personal Responsibility

Are our parents, community and biology responsible for who we are?
The real question might be, 'how responsible are they?'.

Nature and Nurture hold a strong grip on all of us, but where do we draw the line when trying to show understanding, compassion and forgiveness while still holding ourselves and others accountable for the choices and actions we take?

Similarly, we often see families, communities, and even cultures, submerged on specific vicious cycles; what are the circumstances, reasons or the spark that allows for some outliers to make their way it out? If you come from a similar place, what permitted you to break away?

On less extreme scenarios, what allows us to break the patterns and habits dictated to us by our cultures and nature? How can someone finally become the driver instead of remaining a simple passenger?

Finally, wherever Free Will is discussed, Determinism is bound to pop up. Part of this philosophy would argue that we are simply part of an unbroken chain of events, which could be predicted if all its elements where completely known and understood. However, is there a practical value we can draw from these philosophies to impact our daily life?
