September 30th – October 5th

30.09.2017
Airport – Anuradapura (1N)

Anuradhapura is a pleasant albeit sprawling city; a small town that feels more like a large village.
The ruins of Anuradhapura are one of South Asia’s most evocative sights. The sprawling complex contains a rich collection of archaeological and architectural wonders: enormous dagobas (brick stupas), ancient pools and crumbling temples, built during Anuradhapura’s thousand years of rule over Sri Lanka.

Trincomalee
(Trincomalee city tour, Koneshwaram Temple, Shakthi peedam temple, Pigeon island tour, snorkeling)

Well known for its pristine and undisturbed beaches, Trincomalee is often overlooked by visitors as a historic destination. However its world-class deep water harbour acted as a passageway for trade during the Anuradhapuran and Polonnaruwan periods, as well as duringcolonial times, and as a result Trincomalee has a lot to offer. This tour includes a visit to Fort Fredrick; built in Protected content fort remains formidable to this day and a visit to the famous Koneswaram Temple. The temple is built atop ‘Swamy Rock’, a rocky promontory cape overlooking Trincomalee. You will also visit the World War II Cemetery and will learn about the harbour that is so central to Trincomalee’s history.

Pigeon island tour - Floating in the great blue 1km offshore, Pigeon Island, with its powdery white sands and glittering coral gardens, tantalises with possibilities. A nesting area for rock pigeons, the island is beautiful enough, with rock pools and paths running through thickets, but it’s the underwater landscape that’s the real star. The reef here is shallow, making snorkelling almost as satisfying as diving, and it’s home to dozens of corals, hundreds of reef fish (including blacktip reef sharks) and turtles.

Polonnoruwa City Tour

The city of Polonnaruwa, the medieval capital and crown jewel of King Parakramabahu, remains superior proof of ancient culture and heritage blended with religious beliefs.
Walk across its scattered walls of the World Heritage Site that is blessed by stupas resting Buddha statues, irrigation canals and fantastically carved Hindu sculptures while observing the relic house Watadage that boasts of beautiful stone carvings. The Nissankamalla Council Chamber is, however, a head-spinning beauty to just sit back and observe with its swaying pillars reminding the aesthetics of a powerful kingdom which rests beside Parakrama Samudraya - sea of Parakramabahu & masterpiece of irrigation.
