Book Club: My Brilliant Friend
‘My Brilliant Friend,’ (‘La amiga estupenda’ as it is known in Spanish), is the first book “in the New York Times bestselling Neapolitan quartet about two friends growing up in post-war Italy… a rich, intense, and generous-hearted family epic by Italy’s most beloved and acclaimed writer, Elena Ferrante, ‘one of the great novelists of our time.’” (Roxana Robinson, The New York Times).
Let’s get together to discuss this book that is both a page-turner and a highly regarded work of literature, by the famous and mysterious writer Elena Ferrante. Her name is a pseudonym and, although there are several hypotheses as to whom the real author –or authors– is, nobody knows for sure, since she has chosen to remain anonymous.
You can purchase this book via Amazon. In Bogotá, you can find the Spanish version in bookstores. I specially recommend Lerner, Wilborada and Casa Tomada; it’s more difficult to find it at Librería Nacional. Some bookstores don’t have it in stock but they can get it for you, so make sure to ask them. Casa Tomada sells both the English and Spanish translations.
PLEASE keep in mind that we’ll meet at the Protected content (they have another restaurant as well, but we won’t meet there). There's a free parking lot next to the restaurant (for customers only). This is a very nice and cozy place, with plenty of options for food and beverages. You pay for what you order.
