Ballet: Red Roses and Tortillas

A modern Mexican classic of magical realism forms the basis for The Royal Ballet's new full-length ballet, in which artistic collaborator Christopher Wheeldon collaborates with the creative team that turned Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Winter Fairytale into dance, composer Joby Talbot and designer Bob Crowley. The ballet is inspired by Laura Esquivel's novel – a captivating family saga where the main character incorporates her emotions into her cooking, influencing everyone around her in a surprising and dramatic way. In this co-production with the American Ballet Theatre, Mexican conductor Alondra de la Parra also acts as music consultant for Talbot's commissioned score, and Wheeldon has worked closely with Esquivel to transform her rich and multi-layered story into a captivating and compelling new ballet. to make.
