Scream of the Ants by M.Makhmalbaf Pre-View + Zoom Debate
Have you ever thought that every time you walk on the land you kill ants? After (a trip to) Kandahar, a spiritual and philosophical trip to the fascinating and wonderful India to meet "the perfect" or "complete man", an Hindu sage. This film gives profound answers to many existential questions.
A man and a woman leave Iran to complete their honeymoon in India. She is a believer, he is an atheist and a communist. The subcontinent immediately reveals itself as a terrain of confrontation and conflict.
Nothing better than some quotes can shows the quality of the arguments:
<<with every step we kill at least one ant, did you hear the ants scream?>>
<<poverty, misery, impotence, it seems like everyone has axcepted it>>
<< is there is a God, he created this world as a Joke>>
<<God's answer to the poor is the little joys>>
<<to become happy you have to lose something, not gain it>>.
<<The universe is full of shit. The shit is constantly raining on you. It is a process. And in different cultures they've found different answers to that. For ex the Catholics say “you deserve it”; the Protestants “let it happen to others”; the Muslims “it is the will of Allah”; the Jewes “Why it is always happening to us?”: Buddists say “actually, it is not really shit”; in Japan the zen Buddists “listen to the sound of shit happening”>>
