Leila by Dariush Mehrjui Pre-view + Zoom debate
Dariush Mehrjui's Post-Revolution Masterpiece. The old struggle between tradition and modernity.
How severely can love be tested in a couple, how much can a woman humble herself? An intense and touching drama of feelings, delicately balanced between feminine pride and respect for traditions, masterfully directed with Bergmanian style (whose references to the bright red tones of some scenes are for sure refined quotations of Bergman's "Cries and whispers").

Leila is a kind-hearted and loving woman whose marriage to Reza starts off happily. But when she learns that she is infertile, her life changes rapidly. Devastated by the news, Leila finds herself under growing pressure from Reza's mother to let him take a second wife to bear his children, and what follows is a profound psychological study of a woman swept away on a complex emotional journey.
