Shen Congwen Protected content Protected content 10 May Protected content , formerly romanized as Shen Ts'ung-wen, is considered to be one of the greatest modern Chinese writers, on par with Lu Xun. Regional culture and identity plays a much bigger role in his writing than that of other major early modern Chinese writers. He was known for combining the vernacular style with classical Chinese writing techniques. Shen is the most important of the "native soil" writers in modern Chinese literature.

He was slated to win the Protected content Prize in Literature, but died before he could be awarded the prize.

After taking a tour through Russian and Turkish literary works, we are now back in China. This book was suggested by several of our members. It is a well-known work by the author, and is readily available here in both digital and paperback versions. It is a relatively short book, so our readers should not have much trouble finishing it on time for our activity. My co-consul Manu and I are both looking forward to seeing you again, and to discussing this book from the Protected content in China. Well met!

Please note: We are back to our “normal“ Sunday activity day. Our starting time is once again 2:30 pm to give the movie club more time to screen their film immediately following our discussion.
