A Grotto and a Hike Day Out
I adore caves and grottos, so how could I resist organising an activity around one? This one is small but cute, and only a hop, a skip and a jump away from the heart of Athens!
This time we will visit the town of Peaannia (Παιανια) and its famous grotto. We can hike between the two spots, have coffee in the main square and then return to Athens.
at 9:30am at the Protected content to get to Peaannia town by coach at 9:45am. I am afraid we will not wait for latecomers.
In Peaannia we can visit the Museum of Vorre, which houses collections of Folk and Contemporary Art.
The entry ticket costs 5 euros and opening hours are 10:00am-14:00pm on a Saturday.
We will then hike to the grotto - the walk is 2.54 miles long (4.1 km), so it will take us an hour.
Alternatively, we could split in groups and share a taxi and return by foot after the visit to the cave.
The area, which is open to the public, is Protected content long and temperature can reach 17oC inside. The stalagmites and stalactites have formed wonderful sculptures, that we can visit guided by one of the museum's tour guides.
The grotto is 2 million years old and was discovered in Protected content .
Entry ticket costs 3 euros and opening times are 8:30am to 15:00pm.
Please wear comfortable clothes and walking shoes, carry an umbrella and a bottle of water. Packed lunch is optional. Added to this, please carry coins for the taxi rides.
Hopefully the weather will be sunny and fresh, but this excursion can take place even in light rain.
Join us alone or with friends for a great day out!
I look forward to seeing you there
Thank you xxx
