An Easter hike & picnic to Tattoi!
Please RSVP only if you are participating in this activity.
Please read the description carefully!
If you are staying in Athens for Easter, how about a hike in the national park of Tattoi, one of the largest fenced areas to walk and spend time in, which includes dense forests, monuments and mountain views. It is located 10miles from the suburb of Kiffissia.
History of Tattoi:
Tattoi had been documented since Antiquity as an area of strategic importance for trade and supervision of the wider region of Attiki.
In medieval times it belonged to the estate of various influential landowners until the end of Greece's siege by the Ottoman Empire's presence in Greece in the 19th century.
From that point until Protected content was 'given'/sold to the ex royal family > Greece has always been a Republic, since Antiquity, however after the war against the Ottoman Empire in the 19th century, the European Powers imposed a German royal family on Greece in order to serve their various political interests. The royal presence in Greece lasted until Protected content total of Protected content , when Greeks were able to successfully revolt and regain their complete independence and establish the everlasting Republic.
It now belongs to the Greek State, which is in charge of the restoration works of the building and the maintenance of the grounds as well as the future wine production. The Tattoi building will become a museum at some point in the future, but the process has been slowed down by the economic crisis as well as by the continuous claims on the estate of surviving members of the ex royals!
We will meet at Protected content taxi or the bus to Varriboby, Mount Parnitha. We will hike on the grounds for as long as our heart desires. We will visit the monuments and gardens, then we will stop to enjoy a picnic at a leafy spot of our choice.
Feel free to bring your bikes and ride around the forest.
We will return to Athens later in the afternoon.
