Autumn Hike in South Börzsöny Hills
Within an easy access from Budapest, Börzsöny Hills provide an excellent destination for weekend hikes. Starting from the picturesque village of Zebegény, one can not pass the local sweetshop without tasting the excellent strudel there. We will follow the most beautiful route of the area then along the zig-zag valley of a creek, passing through pretty meadows with autumn wild flowers. Arriving to the spring of the water, there will be a break at the lodge on the plateau. From there, the hike continues along the eastern ridge, providing an excellent view to the Danube Bend area. Finally, the walk takes down to Nagymaros, from where there are regular trains back to Budapest. (If many people come by car, there is an alternative shortcut option back to the point of departure.)
Length of the hike: 13km
Total ascent: 350m
Level of physical difficulty: medium
The route climbs to the plateau with a smooth ascent. Later on, there will be two sections with steeper upward slopes, and a steep descent with a rough surface path.
Scheduled return: around 6 pm to Budapest, Western Railway Station
- Please wear boots or proper shoes for hiking.
- Bring a lunch pack with you, or there will be also opportunities for a buffet lunch at lunch break.
