A historic capital of the Ottoman Empire and a home to many cultures and people throughout the ages, Istanbul has a diverse community structure that not only includes the Turkish people. It also hosts the culture of the Armenian, Greek and Jewish people as well. Istanbul has influenced not only Turkish culture but the cultures of neighbouring countries as well. This concert will take us on a journey through the history of Istanbul in Ottoman times. The tanbur, kemenche, percussion and qanun will be the main instruments of this concert to play Istanbul folk songs. Classical instrumentals and improvisations that are relevant to the music of Istanbul will be included as well to provide a more colourful atmosphere.
This event is organised in collaboration with
Yunus Emre Institue & Turkish Airlines
