Hi everyone I am continuing to show you the best of Detroit. This time I'll introduce you to the most unique urban park in America. Belle Isle is a Protected content island full of treasures with the Dossin Great Lakes Museum, the Nature Zoo, the Aquarium, the James Scott Memorial Fountain, The Livingstone Memorial Light House, the Conservatory, the Detroit Yacht Club, the beach, a golf range and a giant slide.
At Protected content (1.534 sq mi; Protected content , Belle Isle Park was the largest city island park (prior to its transfer to the State of Michigan as a state park) and is larger than Central Park in New York City, also designed by Olmsted.
You'll see wonderful views and features of the island. You'll also learn why it's a popular destination that draws residents and guests year round.
We will meet at Sunset Point which is on Sunset dr. at noon. We will have picnic, please bring your food.
You have to pay to enter Belle Isle; they charge if you enter by car and better maybe have a car pool.
The passes cost $11 for vehicles, $5 for motorcyclists. Pedestrians and bicyclists can still access the island for free.
Wear comfortable walk shoes and dress appropriately for the weather. A camera to take pictures of the gorgeous views is highly recommended.
Looking forward to see you to discover another beautiful part of Detroit.
