Sommerwerf Festival combines THEATRE, DANCE, MUSIC AND PERFORMANCE:With the theme ‘CULTURE OF PEACE’, the Sommerwerft ties in with our current reality: In times when hatred and aggression are once again becoming socially acceptable, and when armaments are being ramped up again at all levels, it is the urgent responsibility of cultural professionals to weave a different story, to counter the narrative of ‘us versus them’ with a different one, and to give space in content and formats to the richness that arises from diversity and difference. How can we overcome the rifts that run through our society? How can we build bridges between town and country, between young and old, between the diverse cultures, genders and backgrounds that we bring with us as individuals? How can we establish a dialogue in which we meet as equals? Such a dialogue requires platforms, ‘round tables’. With the Sommerwerft, we are creating such a space - all together.
